How to Automatically Hide Out-of-Stock Products

Keeping out-of-stock products visible in your store can lead to poor customer experience and lost sales. With Smart Product Sorter, you can automatically hide products once their inventory reaches a specific threshold. This guide will walk you through how to set it up.

🎯 What This Feature Does

The Hide out-of-stock items if their inventory level is less than feature automatically removes products from your selected collections when inventory reaches a custom threshold you define.

This helps you:

  • Keep collections clean and organized

  • Avoid customer frustration

  • Reduce manual work

  • Improve conversion rates

⚙️ How to Enable Automatic Hiding

Follow these steps:

Step 1: Open the App

  1. Go to Apps in your Shopify admin.

  2. Open Smart Product Sorter.

  3. Create a new collection or edit an existing collection.

Step 2: Configure the Hide Rule

  1. Navigate to the Other Options section.

  2. Locate the "Hide out-of-stock items if their inventory level is less than" option.

  3. Turn the toggle ON.

  4. Enter your preferred threshold value.

Example:

  • Enter 3 â†’ Product hides when inventory is less than 3.

  1. Click Save.

🔎 How the Threshold Works

The rule hides products when:

Product Inventory < Threshold Value

For example:

  • Threshold = 4

  • Product Inventory = 3

The product will be hidden.

If you want products to stay visible while inventory is 3, set the threshold to 3 instead.

📌 Important Notes

  • This feature only works for products that have inventory tracking enabled in Shopify.

  • If inventory tracking is disabled, the app cannot determine stock levels.

  • Changes may take a few moments depending on your sync settings.

  • This rule applies per collection where it is configured.

đź’ˇ Best Practice Recommendation

For most stores, we recommend setting the threshold to:

  • 1 â€“ to hide only when fully sold out

  • 2–3 â€“ to create urgency and help prevent overselling
